Our first discussion of our new Inside the Season series, we explore the topic of book banning in America, with specific focus on the influence/impact on education. With books on race, antiracism, and LGBTQIA+ topics especially targeted, how does book banning affect how young people find themselves reflected in our society? What does lack of representation do to the state of our democracy? And what can we do to combat the problem?

About Inside the Season

Inside the Season is a new programming series from the Folger Shakespeare Library designed to highlight our seasonal theme through talks and hands-on activities that explore specific related topics. Each multidisciplinary talk brings together experts and artists in the field to show the variety of ways in which these ideas can be explored and expanded upon. This year we dive into Whose Democracy? to ignite conversation about power and participation.
