Do you like having fun and solving puzzles – all while making a difference? Then join us for this year’s District Hunt!

The Folger is excited to be a partner with Game Genius for the District Hunt, an outdoor adventure game through DC, this Oct. 5 & 6.

On Friday, October 4, District Hunt will release a first clue online. The event then runs for the entire weekend, starting with the kickoff at the Folger Shakespeare Library at 10:30am(ET) on Saturday, October 5. We’ll begin the registration process outside at 10:30 so we can get started right when the Folger opens at 11.  You will be able to check in anytime on October 5-6, but we recommend closer to the kickoff for the best experience.

This year the hunt is highlighting Arts & Culture in the DMV. Arts and Culture can help people feel a sense of place, develop their identity, and show their creativity. They can also bring communities together and help tackle social injustice.

The District Hunt challenges small teams to solve a mystery together while exploring DC venues and celebrating local changemakers. Everyone is welcome to play, and teams of 2-8 are encouraged to sign up together. We’re excited for you, your family, your friends, and your co-workers to join us for this year’s puzzle adventure!

This Year’s Story

This year’s game is titled A Playwright’s Last Play. It’s both a Shakespearean tragic comedy and local exploration into an artist’s tantalizing dance with fortune and fame.

Who Can Play?

Everyone! The District Hunt is open to any individual or team who wants to play.

How Long Will The Hunt Last

This entirely depends on your ability to solve the puzzles and navigate the city. Our goal is to offer several checkpoints that encourage players to determine an appropriate time to stop. Each checkpoint will represent a step up in difficulty. Players are welcome to break up the game over several days or try to finish in a specific time window. For the race, we’ll design for the fastest time to be somewhere around 2-4 hours.
