Books in Progress Fellowship

  • Two-day workshop in Spring 2025
  • Applicants must have a preliminary draft of their full manuscript complete at time of application
  • Applications open July 2024

The Books in Progress Fellowship is designed for early career scholars who lack institutional support for book manuscript review.

The Folger Reading Room

Long-term Fellowships

  • Nine months of full-time research support
  • Up to three months of the award may be taken virtually
  • Terminal degree required
  • Applications open September 2023

Long-term residential fellowships are designed to support scholarly research projects that would benefit from significant primary research onsite at the Folger.

Short-term Fellowships

  • One, two, or three months of scholarly research support
  • Fellowships may be taken onsite, virtually, or a combination of the two
  • Open to ABD PhD Candidates, or international equivalent
  • Applications open October 1, 2023

Short-term applicants may apply for 1, 2, or 3 months of research support. The requested months may be all onsite, all virtual, or a hybrid of the two. Applicants must explain their rationale for the proposed research plan. The types of virtual and onsite research supported by a Folger fellowship is outlined on the Short-Term Fellowships page.

Artistic Fellowships

  • One, two, or three months of research support
  • Fellowships may be taken onsite, virtually, or a combination of the two
  • No formal degree required
  • Applications open October 1, 2023

Artistic applicants may apply for 1, 2, or 3 months of research support. The requested months may be all onsite, all virtual, or a hybrid of the two.
