Ulysses

1922
First Edition
Numbered Edition
Signed by the Author

Ulysses is one of the most difficult, most controversial, and most influential novels of the twentieth century. This copy is as it was first issued—from within a total of 1000 copies printed on Dutch handmade paper, this is one of 100 numbered copies signed by the author. Ulysses follows the structure of Homer’s epic poem about Odysseus’s journey home from the Trojan War to his wife Penelope in Ithaca. The voyage home of Leopold Bloom, the novel’s anti-hero, is condensed to a single day in Dublin, 16 June 1904. An early serialized version met with scandal and controversy, but the novel was finally published in Paris by Sylvia Beach in 1922.
