Manuscript of The Valley of Fear
1913
Author’s Manuscript
In this manuscript, Sherlock Holmes comes to life for the last time from the pen of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in The Valley of Fear, which first appeared in serial form in The Strand Magazine. A mysterious message is received, a warning of imminent danger, drawing Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson into a tale of intrigue and murder stretching from 221B Baker Street to an ancient moated manor house to the bleak Pennsylvanian Vermissa Valley. This manuscript was used for setting into type those serial episodes from which the UK and American book editions were crafted.
