Synopsis:

The rest of the Greek forces hear the shouts of the Myrmidons announcing Hector’s death.

Sound retreat. Enter Agamemnon, Ajax, Menelaus,
Nestor, Diomedes, and the rest, marching to the beat of
drums.
 Shout within.


AGAMEMNON  3508 Hark, hark, what shout is this?
NESTOR  3509 Peace, drums!The drums cease.

SOLDIERS, within 
3510  Achilles! Achilles! Hector’s slain! Achilles!
DIOMEDES 
3511  The bruit is Hector’s slain, and by Achilles.
AJAX 
3512 5 If it be so, yet bragless let it be.
3513  Great Hector was as good a man as he.
AGAMEMNON 
3514  March patiently along. Let one be sent
3515  To pray Achilles see us at our tent.
3516  If in his death the gods have us befriended,
3517 10 Great Troy is ours, and our sharp wars are ended.
They exit, marching.
