Synopsis:

Angelo enforces Vienna’s law against fornication, ordering the brothels torn down and having Claudio arrested because his fiancée’s pregnancy exposes his guilt in breaking this law. Claudio, sentenced to be executed immediately, sends Lucio to the convent to beg Claudio’s sister Isabella, a novice, to intercede with Angelo.

Enter Lucio and two other Gentlemen.
