Millicent Scarlett

Soprano Millicent Scarlett, originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, continues to display her musical artistry with “a powerful and juicy voice” on concert stages throughout Canada and the USA. Millicent recently returned to her Alma Mater The University of Maryland where she performed a mini recital at the President’s House, and reprised her role of Ida B. Wells in the new audiobook version of 19: The Musical that was heard on Audible and other sites.

She joined the Columbia Orchestra on their Pops Concert entitled, Sky’s The Limit under the baton of Nancia D’Alimonte and performed with the DTSBC dance company on their 30th Anniversary celebration performances and 10,000 Dreams at the Kennedy Center and Hillwood Estate Museum and Gardens. Millicent had the pleasure of performing America the Beautiful at The National Archives Museum’s July 4th Celebration and was honored to participate in the historic Swearing in Ceremony of the new Archivist Dr. Colleen Shogan. She returned to the Hunt Country Music Festival where she performed in Jubilate along with Dr. Nathaniel Gumbs, and performed a solo recital at the historic Washington Arts Club of Washington.

Other recent performances include; the Messiah Sing-A-Long at the Kennedy Center, under the baton of Maestra Nancia D’Alimonte; “Surroundings” at the National Portrait Gallery honoring American designer, Maya Lin, and A Tribute Marian Anderson at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater; Recital entitled, In Plain Sight, the Art Songs of African American Women Composers, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Gwyneth Walker’s A Heart in Hiding with The Choral Arts Society of Washington in their concert, O What a Beautiful City, under the direction of Dr. Jace Saplan at The Washington National Cathedral; the role of Ida. B. Wells, in the World Premiere of “19: The Musical” at the National Museum of Women in the Arts; Strauss’ Last Four Songs and Beethoven’s Ninth with the NIH Philharmonia,

Ms. Scarlett is a winner of many awards, most notably The Luciano Pavarotti International Competition, and National Semi-Finalist at the Metropolitan Opera. She is currently an Adjunct Professor and Facilitator of Voice at George Washington University, Voice Teacher for Washington National Opera’s Institute, and the Director of Music at University United Methodist Church in College Park, MD.
