Folger Shakespeare Library Internship Program

Coming soon will be the launch of our new and improved internship program at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Here at the Folger, we prioritize establishing substantive and immersive opportunities organization-wide for a diverse cohort of interns. Internships at the Folger offer placements in a variety of our departments, allowing students to explore a variety of facets that the Library can offer.

The Folger is committed to reducing barriers to access of opportunities and information; therefore, all internships are paid and provide extensive professional development and mentorship. Our hands-on opportunities focus on building transferrable skills and career readiness to ensure our interns leave with the competencies necessary to enter the workforce successfully.

Partner programs

The Folger Shakespeare Library continues to partner with various organizations and institutions to diversify the opportunities that we offer students at various places in their academic and professional careers.

Dumbarton Oaks Humanities Fellowships

The Dumbarton Oaks Humanities Fellowships are a unique and innovative program, offering nine months of professional development at outstanding cultural institutions of Washington, DC, to graduating seniors and recent graduates of Harvard College and Amherst College.

Thrive Arts Marita Golden Literary Fellowship

The Folger works with Thrive Arts in their mission to support BIPOC artists and ensure they are given the necessary tools to grow. The Marita Golden Literary Fellowship provides an opportunity for creative writing undergraduates attending HBCU’s to gain mentorship and experience in the writing/publishing field. The Folger Shakespeare Library acts as a partner organization that fellows may intern with during their time.

Urban Alliance

The Folger partners with Urban Alliance to connect high school students to equitable, inclusive careers through paid work experiences, mentorship, and professional development. Urban Alliance works with schools and employers to address systemic barriers to economic mobility for young adults of color and to bridge the gaps between education and workforce development for all young people.
